Casey is a college student at the University of Pittsburgh. She enjoys writing because it is a form of communication that allows her to stay in sweats with a messy bun. College is her introduction to studying writing, though she knows she will always be a student of writing.  

It’s Bikini Season and I Don’t Care

For the past several months, I’ve been dodging signs and articles screaming that it’s bikini season. In lay terms, it’s time to shed pounds so that we girls can look good in a teeny tiny bikini on the beach and at the local pool. In practice, I’m all for working out and trying to inspire people to work out. Working out makes you feel good, it releases endorphins, and it’s a good habit to get into to live a long and healthy life. But I dislike this specific “motivational” tactic, if I can even call it that. Telling girls and women they need to look good in a bikini isn’t inspiring, it’s degrading. And for me, it detracts having healthy motives to work out. Continue reading
